In a previous post, I wrote about building my first miniature arcade room. It was a fun project, but now I want to take it to the next level. Using what I’ve learned from that build, I’ve started planning a better version. Here’s what I want to change:
Key Improvements
- A Stronger Box or Shell
The last one got a bit wonky after I finished it. This time, I’ll make sure the structure is much stronger and holds up better under the weight of everything inside. - New Arcade Models
I want to use more types of arcade machines, which means I’ll need to make even more 3D models. Luckily, I’ve already made a few extras, even before deciding to start a new project. - Hidden Electronics
In the first build, the cables were all dangling out of the back of the box. It looked messy. For this one, I’ll find a way to hide all the wires to make it cleaner and more professional-looking.
The New Arcade Models and Layout
One thing I’m focusing on is how to add more lights in clever places. For example, marquee lights on top of the arcade machines would make a big difference. The challenge is that not all cabinets I’m planning to use, like the “Crazy Taxi” one (the orange one), have many lights other than the marquee.
To figure out the best layout, I’ve been previewing how the cabinets I’ve already made fit together. I plan to put the smaller cabinets at the front near the window and use bigger ones in the back. This should give the arcade a more dynamic and balanced feel when you look inside.
Floor and Window Changes
For the floor, I’ll be using wooden popsicle sticks, but this time I’ll cut off the rounded ends so they fit together better. It’ll give the floor a cleaner, more realistic look.
As for the window, instead of sticking an acrylic sheet between layers of cardboard like last time, I’m planning to 3D-print some guided rails for the window. This will make the box sturdier and help reduce wear on it over time.
I’m also debating whether to make the box bigger. It’s already larger than the first one, but I’m still thinking about whether I need the extra space or not. We’ll see how that goes.
Moving Forward
