My name is Benjamin. I’ve been the owner of this site since it was set up in 2014.
This site is a space where I write about the projects I run or am involved in, as well as things that interest me at the time.
The Beginning (2014)
In the beginning, I wrote reviews of skate competitions and events that were anime- and Japan-related. I took photos and wrote general impressions of the events. The name of the site comes from the shed in my backyard where my friends and I used to hang out. Because I had a background in video, I started thinking about launching a podcast, which was very trendy at the time (and still is).
Growing (2015–2017)
With some success, a few friends joined me. We started making videos and producing more regular, more professional content. We also founded DDR-EXP, an organization for rhythm-game events, which at the time was part of DeSchuurr. We managed this with a team of four and posted at least weekly, and for some time even daily. We created Skatelist (a skatepark search engine) and began building things (mainly dance pads).
After a while, we had to think about the future and eventually decided to split up all activities. I became the sole owner of the site again.
The Continuation (2018–Current)
The site continued to have event posts but mostly ran on a low burner. More tech-related content appeared, and the website received a makeover, removing the social media section since it was rarely used. By this point, DeSchuurr became a name I could attach to projects and releases. I made an album and needed a label to look professional, so DeSchuurr became a label. Needed a publisher for a game? Same thing.
